Langley Alloys was created in 1938, with the objective of developing high-performance alloys for naval and aerospace applications. Our history includes the patent for the very first commercial super duplex stainless steel, Ferralium 255, and the invention of the highest-strength copper-nickel alloy Hiduron, now widely used in modern subsea applications. These days we operate from specialist facilities in the UK and USA, where our comprehensive stockholding of bars, plate and pipes allows us to supply customers globally. And as a distribution partner for Alleima (formerly Sandvik) and voestalpine BOHLER Edelstahl, we carry an extensive range of their stainless steels, duplex and super duplex stainless steels and nickel alloys. In fact, we like to call ourselves #thehomeofsuperduplex, reflecting our role in the development and focus on distributing the most complete range of these alloys. Continued investment in our in-house inspection, testing and machining capabilities allow Langley Alloys to be your one-stop supplier of choice, saving you considerable cost, time and effort. Therefore, when you have a requirement for high-performance alloys for demanding applications, let the knowledgeable Langley Alloys team take care of you.

In 1908, brothers Charles and Edwin Leitelt formed a partnership and engaged in the business of Brass, Bronze, and Aluminum foundry. The original foundry measured 10 feet by 16 feet and employed three men. Through hard work, determination and being skilled artisans in the foundry craft, the brothers incorporated the business in 1913. In addition, they erected a new foundry that measured 10,000 square feet and employed 35 skilled craftsmen. At this time, Leitelt Brothers Inc. specialized in heavy-duty castings, ranging from a ½ pound up to 1 ton, that serviced the rolling mill, marine, and architectural industries. In 1918 the company added an additional 2,500 square feet of floor space dedicated to secondary finishing capabilities - polishing, plating, sandblasting and assembly work. Today the company is owned and operated by 3rd generation brothers, Andrew and Paul, who followed the footsteps of their father Edward. With the addition of a full-service Machine Shop, the company has expanded its capabilities and has grown to occupy a 28,000 square foot building. The proud tradition of craftsmanship working alongside the industry’s most advanced technology will continue with 4th generation brothers Timothy and Paul. Tim, a Purdue University graduate, joined the company in 1997 and Paul, a Valparaiso University graduate, joined the management team in 2003. We currently pour ten different Brass and Bronze Alloys along with six different Aluminum Alloys to meet our customer’s requirements. AutoDesk, Master Cam, and Solid Works computer software allows us to work closely with mechanical and production engineers during the critical design phase of a casting project. Assuring the correct dimensional, metallurgical and mechanical tolerances are designed into the casting initially saves valuable time and money for our customers.

Lucas Milhaupt leads the industry in application problem solving and takes brazing optimization to the next level with: UltraCoat - Flux coated braze foil designed to reduce cycle times and eliminate variability. In cases where two flat surfaces are to be brazed, many customers turn to braze alloy in the form of strip. Strip is ideal for covering large surface areas or for sitting flush between two components where wire would cause the parts to sit unevenly. This makes strip ideal for pre-placing shims between two components such as a carbide blank and a steel body or else pre-placing a preform such as a washer between two parts that need to have intimate contact during the braze cycle. While alloy form and selection are critical aspects of a braze joint, flux is also an integral part in torch and induction brazing. To promote strong joints, a proper amount of flux is needed and, in many cases, when left to manual application, flux is either under or over applied. When flux is underapplied, the flux present will saturate quickly during heating, and oxide build up will prevent the braze alloy from flowing and bonding effectively along both substrates. When flux is overapplied, the alloy cannot effectively flush the flux out of the joint resulting in flux inclusions and voids which leads to lower joint strength. So how can a company eliminate variability, drive down overconsumption, and improve part quality? Lucas Milhaupt solves all the variables in the brazing equation with one simple solution: Ultra Coat. As the industry leader in solution driven support, Lucas Milhaupt introduces its Ultra Coat product line—flux coated strip that eliminates the need for separate flux and alloy application. By coating the strip with a precise amount of flux, operator variability is eliminated and first pass yield increases. The amount of flux coated on the braze foil is calculated precisely for your application and helps ensure the proper amount of fluxing action for superior alloy wetting without increasing the amount of flux inclusions and porosity left inside the joint. By driving down porosity and improving alloy wetting, no joint strength is sacrificed, and, in many cases, joint strength is higher than joints that use manual flux and braze alloy.

Clinton D. Lynch, the founder of Lynch Metals, was President of a distributor in the New York Metropolitan area that sold brazing sheet that was only supplied by Alcoa. In 1985, Alcoa decided to discontinue the production of #21 and #22 brazing sheet utilized in dip brazing applications, which was the main product they sold. Since domestic mills would not sell brazing sheet to distributors, Lynch searched for an alternate source overseas. He found Korrugal Aluminum (known as Granges today) located in Finspong, Sweden. Lynch partnered with Korrugal and became their first customer in the United States. Realizing there was a need for brazing sheet to be available in less than mill minimum quantities, Lynch opened up Lynch Metals in October of 1991, with the desire to fill that need. Domestic producing mills of clad aluminum would not recognize other metal distributors since the application of the product is very technical. The brazing process is referred to as a “Black Art” since no two companies braze the same exact way. The mills believed a distributor, unless they specialized in the process and product, would misrepresent their product in certain sophisticated and technical applications. The company began to add more brazing sheet products to its inventory. While the original focus was on the aerospace market, Lynch ventured into the automotive and industrial markets. As its volume and product offerings grew, other mills such as Alumax, Alcoa, and Reycan, agreed to sell their product through Lynch. While these domestic mills offered a much shorter lead time than Granges, they also broadened Lynch’s product availability. In the late 1990’s AMAG joined Granges to become the second overseas supplier to recognize Lynch as their exclusive distributor of clad aluminum product in North America. Since its inception, Lynch has invested heavily in its process equipment. Today it’s the only distributor that has purchased a Kampf high speed slitter, which can run aluminum fin stock as light as .001” at a speed of 1600 feet per minute. With locations in Union, NJ, Anaheim, CA, and Arlington, TX, Lynch operates two Ruesch slitters, three Goebel slitters, and three cut-to-length lines. Today, Lynch Metals is the premier stocking distributor of aluminum brazing sheet in North America. Our extensive inventory, specialized processing equipment, unique mill relationships, and knowledgeable sales associates combine to make us the best choice to supply your brazing sheet needs. From the outset, Lynch focused on an additional niche product: custom aluminum extrusions. Our experienced Custom Service Representatives will assist you in the design stage of your custom shape. Our expertise in this market will allow us to source your specific shape with the appropriate mill that is best suited to produce it. We will provide current inventory reports while managing your inventory levels on our floor to ensure a consistent flow of material in all market conditions. Additional fabrication, such as miter cutting, hole punching, deburring, secondary machining, and assembly are available to reduce your in-house costs. Also, shapes can be powder coated, wet painted, or anodized. We have become one of the largest distributors of painted and anodized sheet in North America. We stock 38 different color combinations with a focus on the sign and roofing markets. We’ve recently purchased a state-of-the-art blanking line that can produce rounded corners and various diameter holes. Our seven in-house slitters provide excellent flexibility in terms of gauge and width capabilities. Our channel letter coil is individually boxed to protect it during transit. Lynch will continue to invest in its people, equipment, and inventory to provide our customers superior quality and service. Our outstanding organic growth is a testament to our loyal customers and sincere desire to excel.
