Savage Machine Inc. (SMI) was founded in 1979 to provide services for local flange and fitting distributors to help meet their customer’s specifications. Since its inception, SMI has grown in scope and capabilities to meet its client’s needs in a variety of applications. At present, SMI is a full service machine shop and fabrication company that can complete any project. We can handle prototype development, small run jobs and full production projects. SMI is located in Paramount, California for easy access to the Oil Production and Oil Refining process industries in Southern California. This location also provides access to multiple source providers from raw materials to forged components. SMI presently serves clientele throughout the Western United States including Alaska and Hawaii. SMI is a go-to provider of turn-key solutions to complex projects. We are ready to take on the most challenging engineering, manufacturing and design projects with our processes and personnel. We are on the Approved Manufacturers Listing (AML) and have certified personnel and processes to meet any needs.

Founded in 1978, Savage Machining, Inc. began milling and turning with a desire to produce products of excellence for reasonable prices. It has been under current ownership since 1990. This approach to business allowed us to thrive in the midst of the current economic conditions while maintaining excellent relationships with our customers. We employ the latest machining technology to produce parts for government contracted aerospace companies as well as local commercial companies. Not only is Savage Machining, Inc. well established in the industry, boasting over 30 years, it is a growing company. Just last year Savage Machining, Inc. acquired additional industrial space in order to meet the demands for increased production. Our knowledgeable and straightforward staff, continue to provide our customers with excellent service.

Since 1978, Saw Service of America has provided quality products and service to aerospace industries, steel fabricators, steel warehouses, forging companies, casting companies, machine shops, and any company with metalworking needs. We sell and service all major bandsaws, circular saws, iron workers, cutting systems, bending & rolling, and fabrication machines. In addition to providing new and refurbished machines, we stock OEM and aftermarket replacement parts for many brands of cutting machines. Saw Service of America proudly stocks Amada and Bahco bandsaw blades. Our on-site, five-man welding facility has the capacity to weld 1/4" to 3" blades, and is fully-equipped with automated machines, multiple welders, blade capping, and shearing machines. If needed, we can provide you with same day service! Our reputable, knowledgable service department can answer any and all of your questions regarding bandsaws & other cutting machines. In addition to our professional and courteous staff, we utilize the most efficient means of processing and fulfilling customer orders. Our computer-aided estimating process allows us to respond to RFQs or inquiries immediately. An Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) gives us and our customers the best communications possible today. We utilize the E2 Shop Management Manufacturing System that allows us to enter, track, and manage your order efficiently and to maintain on-time delivery for you, the customer. Computer generated bar code labels permits proper part, carton, and dock destination identification for each shipment.

Starting from entry level positions in the industry in the early 2000’s, we have individually, and as a team, worked through every position type required in our career. From sweeping floors, packing boxes, and cleaning the facilities, to programming, estimating, fixture building, process engineering, customer development, cost analysis, productivity analysis, 5s and Lean Implementation, ISO implementation, P&L management, facility opening, closing, and moving transitions, and much more. Our team’s experience includes having to make tough calls and difficult strategic decisions when sales levels and cash flow are down or not reaching projections. This requires close monitoring of revenue, spending, and cash flow and we have managed scenarios where it is necessary to “get small” and hold steady through tough markets. To speak more specifically to that experience, the SC team has successfully turned around projects involving complete large customer “de-sourcing” by implementing a strong strategic plan while maintaining costs and managing capacity constraints. The outcome was a revision to ‘growth’ status with those same customers within months. The strength or our capability to manage through difficult times can be seen in the fact that we maintain most of our previous customer and supplier relationships to this day. We are a hard-working team with the understanding that everyone must pitch in, get their hands dirty, and make sacrifices. We take great pride in our reputations for getting the job done and being successful in our responsibilities. Our team has developed relationships with a solid mix of customer types. From small equipment OEMs, to mining, to aerospace and defense. When your customer and supplier contacts consistently beg the question; “When are you guys starting your own shop?” Eventually we began to ask ourselves the same question! When Jack Schaffner Sr. began working at age 14 as a Latheman in the machining trade he had no idea that 4 generations later, his name would come to represent one of the Midwest’s most respected and innovative machining companies. As he approached age 40, Jack Sr. had over 25 years in the machining trade as Master Latheman working for H & H Machine Company in St. Louis, MO. During the Great Depression he also made auto parts repair on the side. He determined that he would like to pursue the American dream by starting a business of his own. Schaffner Machine Works was opened in 1940. During World War II the business (now incorporated as Schaffner Machine Company) flourished. After the war, Schaffner Machine Company expanded by purchasing surplus of machine equipment available and hiring some of the young men returning home. In fact, Jack Sr.’s son, Jack Jr., returned from service in the US Army Air Corps in Europe eager to work and assume more responsibility at his father’s company. Jack Sr.’s younger son Bob Schaffner joined the family business upon returning from the Korean Conflict. His specialty was improving machine floor operations. Later he started his own successful machine company in the 1980’s. The company expanded its service to clients in many industries, including the aerospace, automotive, medical, and banking. As a well respected and mature business, Schaffner Machine Company employed a thirst for quality products and traditional service to meet the needs of its clients, but it had not yet implemented the use of CNC technology. In 1995 Jack Jr.’s son, Jack III, left the oil industry where he had been working as a General Field Engineer, Sales Engineer, and Geophysicist, and joined the company as President. Jack III led the company into CNC Swiss machining, expanding the product line, modernizing quality control procedures, and instituting industry standard shop management software. This currently includes 6-8 axis Swiss machining centers, computerized optical measurement, adopting Lean Manufacturing systems, and CAD/CAM software. Over 8 decades later, Schaffner Machine Company honors the tradition of quality service started by Jack Schaffner Sr. in 1940 in its dedication to creative solutions, improved efficiency, and increasing precision to meet the needs of its clients in a global economy.

Schmid Tool and Engineering is a third generation, small, woman owned, family business. We have been in business since 1943 in the Chicago area. started as a tool and die shop, we have developed over time into a full-service CNC contract machine shop. We handle government contracts and commercial market.

Schmiede Corporation, a woman-owned small business, began in 1963 in Tullahoma TN with three employees machining wind tunnel components for nearby Arnold Air Force Base. In the following fifty years Schmiede has grown its business to encompass over 150,000 square feet of manufacturing area and approximately 150 employees. Over the years Schmiede has continued its strong presence in the aerospace industry, which averages approximately sixty percent of annual sales. Schmiede is committed to driving customer focus through on time delivery of a quality product utilizing the involvement of our workforce in improvement of productivity for mutually beneficial supplier/customer relationships.
