In 1967 Jim Ulmer Jr., working in the soils testing industry, bought several metal working machine tools to make parts in his spare time for his employer. Eventually this practice grew out of the garage shop into a new building and full time business located on Northside Drive in Jackson. Although the times necessitated several relocations, he eventually came to rest at our present location in 1976 as JIM ULMER COMPANY. His two sons, having grown up in the business, rejoined the business in 1993 and he turned over the reins and retired in 1996. The company was incorporated as Ulmer Machine Company, Inc. (AKA - ULMCO, Inc.) in August 1996. ULMCO, Inc. is a production CNC Job shop that continues to serve the soils testing industry. Additionally, we specialize in manufacturing parts and assemblies for other manufactures in the road boring, utility, automotive, transportation security, medical, metal finishing, aviation, laboratory, lumber, specialty electric, and outdoor lighting, industries to name a few. Over the years we have developed a few products of our own that we continue to manufacture and sell to customers across the U.S. Our machine shop specializes in CNC precision lathe turning, milling, drilling, and tapping in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, copper and plastics. We do prototyping, short run and production lots, complete assemblies, jigs and fixtures with both CNC and conventional equipment. Our fabrication shop specializes in made to order framework, brackets and weldments made of steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Capabilities include arc, mig, tig, and acetylene welding, plasma and laser cutting. As Ulmer Machine Company, Inc. continues to grow we will expand our talent and equipment base to better serve our customers. In 1979, Bill and Anita Ulseth moved from Pasadena, California to Bradford, Tennessee to raise their child away from the city. While Bill was working as a tool & die maker, he started a small shop in his garage. In 1983, they where able to construct the first of our 3 buildings at our current location. They built the business based on screw machines and high volume production runs. Around 1990 as work shifted from high volume to lower quantity just-in-time requirements, we purchased our first CNC machine. Throughout the years, we have transformed into a full service CNC facility. Bill and Anita are still currently involved in the business, as well as their children. Just like when we started many years ago, we are here answering your phone calls and taking care of you personally.
